Apostolos Thymiopoulos, one of Greece’s most exciting young winemakers, is considered an absolute expert on Xinomavro and Naoussa, the region the grape is indigenous of. This ‘Earth & Sky’, his flagship label, is the perfect example of Apostolos’ winemaking craft and of his outstanding work in both vineyard and cellar. It is a supremely elegant and age-worthy expression of Xinomavro, hailing from old biodynamically farmed vineyards around the village of Trilofo, at the heart of the Naoussa appellation. The age of the vines along with the local climate (similar to that of Bordeaux) allow for the production of extremely concentrated and healthy fruit.

This is the raw material that ultimately produces a smooth, complex and balanced red, that puts some famous international counterparts to shame. If you want to get quality comparable to a fine Barolo or Côtes du Rhone for one third of the price, you can’t go wrong with Thymiopoulos’ Earth & Sky!


What’s in the glass: A complex and refined nose with aromas of wild red fruits (cranberry, redcurrant, red prune), truffle oil, dried oregano and forest floor. The palate is a quintessential expression of Xinomavro, with red fruit topped by a trademark savoury edge of olive tapenade and tomato leaf. Because the wine was partially aged in old oak, you will also perceive a touch of wood smoke and dried prunes, very subtle and elegantly integrated. The texture is refined, with fine-grained tannins and refreshing acidity. Long finish with persistent olive and mushroom notes. Simply elegant and delicious.
