Description

Chios is an island in the North Aegean Sea, whose history has been closely related to mastic (mastiha in Greek), as ever since antiquity the island has enjoyed the exclusive privilege of producing it. Mastiha is the resin obtained from the mastic tree. It is produced from the trunk and branches of the mastic tree, which appears in teardrop shape among the scratches and falls to the ground in drops.

This mastiha, produced by The Chios Gum Mastic Growers Association,  is a whitish powder with the characteristic aroma of Chios Mastiha Gum and a slightly sweet taste. In this form it is ideal for use in cooking and baking. Adding just a bit of this powder to your bread dough, cheesecake or cookies mix, will bring out the distinctive aroma and taste of mastiha to your creations.
